Lettering is an integral part of my process. Growing up in the bay area I was, and stil am exposed to alot of graffiti. This sub culture influenced my love for letterforms. Observing the ways in which someone can express more than what something says, by the way an artist draws or paints their letter forms; grew my admiration for lettering. Also I must mention the beautiful Victorian architecture in San Francisco. What accompanies the Victorian houses are the elegantly hand painted addresses that are placed above the front doors of these homes. The Bay Area is a typographical playground. From the murals in the mission district to the graffiti along the train lines, as a young aspiring artist and designer, I absorbed all of this visual stimulus. Still to this day I'm always excited to see storefronts hiring sign painters, and new graffiti on the freeways. San Francisco in my case, and the world at large is a graphic designer's playground if you look closely, and critically. All the insperation is outside.
